A lot of them were designed to serve as landing areas for steamers that brought tourists to new bathing areas. Others were designed to promenade and provide access to the sea. Remember that during the industrial revolution , the city air was severely polluted, and sea air believed to heal numerous ailments. For more information checkout Piers of England.
Brighton
Brighton is another point of sea town. “We cannot discuss seaside piers, without mentioning Brighton Palace Pier. It measures 1,772 feet long it’s an iconic south coast landmark.
“Trampolines and thrill rides and a stunning traditional carousel. It’s about as amazing as British beach fun gets. Add in Brighton’s stunning Royal Pavilion and the famous Lanes for boutique shopping and you’ve surely fulfilled everyone’s expectations.”
Blackpool
“Blackpool, fabulous Blackpool! It’s location of the slot machine arcades and wind-driven rides that create a storm on the main road, however, it also holds its place in the heart of British public and is rightfully so. It has a lot to provide, from the tower on one side that has a myriad of activities that are packed within (the glass observation deck at the top isn’t for those with weak hearts) as well as it’s Pleasure Beach at the other offering rides for everyone.
“A small theme park that is a punch above its weight when it comes to the category of rollercoasters that are world-class The Big One is indeed huge. I’ve only ridden it once and am not certain if I’ll ever get brave enough to do it again, but I’ll never think twice about it. The introduction to The Big Blue hotel wrapped around the Pleasure Beach means you can get up with the sound of a rollercoaster. Speeding by your windows, something my children loved during our last trip.”
Bournemouth
“Bournemouth Pier is a riot! With more than 1,000 feet of length with zip wires that are high-adrenaline as well as climbing wall, this is an absolute must for those who want to thrill their families. It is located on a magnificent seven-mile stretch of coastal land.
“The beaches are lovely as is the city, which alive with culture and life. Bournemouth is certainly a away from the town of retirement it was once known as. Its impressive Victorian heritage is now sat alongside a vibrant modernity; there’s something for everyone in Bournemouth.”
Southend
Southend Pier is one of the most prominent landmarks along the Essex coast, with a variety of attractions and entertainments to keep the visitors entertained. The pier extends 1.34 mile into Thames Estuary, this Grade II listed structure is also the largest pleasure pier in all the world.
It’s so long in fact, that it even has its own railway that transports passengers to the pier’s head. In reaction to the crisis of covid the pier will remain accessible to walk-ons in the time being.
Dunoon
The piers at sea haven’t weathered the storms like they did across Scotland. One pier, however, is popular and is a famous local landmark in the coastal town of Dunoon in Argyll And Bute. Over the years the fleets of steamers with paddles brought tourists to the beachside resort from Glasgow.
However, this trend ceased in the late 1960s. Dunoon Pier was in disrepair before an initiative to revitalize the local economy resulted in an overhaul project. Which has brought back the famous Victorian Pier to its former splendour.
Weston-Super-Mare
“For pure nostalgic bliss I cannot miss Weston-Super-Mare. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of buckets and spade trips there as a small child. Proper family deck chairs, and donkey rides on holidays.
“The sun never shined and it was rare to see the ocean because it is way out. However, you could always find the (now sad to say lost) freshwater paddling area on the beach. There was also an sand-filled cheese sandwich that was on the menu! The Pier itself hasn’t had the best luck in the past and has been destroyed two times by fire. I’m happy that it’s rebuilt, Weston isn’t the same without the sparkling the main draw. Long may it continue to flourish.”
Bournemouth
Bournemouth Pier is the perfect south-coast beauty that has plenty of attractions to keep visitors entertained. The 255-metre long pier has an indoor play area as well as an array of activities for adventure. One of the most recent improvements is a pier to shore zip line that flies riders through the water to the beach. The pier is ideal for tourists as it has a view of the long beach of Bournemouth with spectacular ocean views on the Dorset coast. Read more articles on http://publishityourself.org/
